Project Solar have installed thousands of solar panel systems, many funded by loans provided by Shawbrook Bank. At a number of RECC hearings, the company accepted that it had breached the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC) and it had not always operated in their customers’ best interests.

At a RECC hearing on the 5th December 2013, the regulator claimed that in that year they had received more complaints against Project Solar UK Ltd than any other installer. A representative for Project Solar accepted that “customer care had not had the attention paid to it that it deserves”.

Project Solar also agreed to a consent order from RECC more recently on the 26th January 2017, after they accepted that in certain circumstances they had breached the following sections of the RECC consumer code:-

  • 5.1 Advertising and sales promotions
  • 5.2 Behaviour of sales representatives
  • 5.3 Performance information and predictions
  • 5.4 Proposals, estimates and quotations
  • 6.2 Installing within the cancellation period
  • 7.2 Design, delivery and installation
  • 9.1 Dispute resolution process.

Project Solar is No Longer a Member of RECC

On the 31st January 2017, Project Solar ceased to be a member of RECC after the two parties agreed by mutual consent for their membership to end. Project Solar are still, and were at that point also members of the Home Insulation and Energy Systems Quality Assured Contractors Scheme (HIES). The RECC executive stated that any further complaints it received from the public would be forwarded to HIES for them to resolve.
